Drone Delivery
Drone-based delivery is gaining footholds in pockets of
commerce around the country. From suburban shopping
centers near major airports and cities to single-lane,
55-mph, blink-and-you-might-miss-'em towns with one,

same service (and possibly greater value) for delivery
than brands like DoorDash and Instacart. For consumers
in areas with drone-based services, it may make more
sense to look to the sky (and not across the driveway)
for their tacos, pizza, and more.
CHANGING CONSUMER HABITS
Elizabeth Hassett, director of digital product
experience for Dawn Foods, points out that
Dawn is enhancing service on a wide range of
fronts. Dawn's online ordering platform has
undergone several updates to create an easier
and more seamless customer experience.
" Mostly everything else in our lives is done
online, so it makes sense that purchasing ingredients
would be done the same way. "
Technology and online tools change and
adapt every day, she points out. Not every
customer can have the latest updates and tools
all at once. And trying to keep up with the
constant changes can be overwhelming.
" Look at technology and online tools
through the 80/20 lens - focus on 20% of the
tools that will drive 80% of the profit and success
for the business, " Hassett says. " This is
especially important for smaller, local bakeries
as they may not have the bandwidth to adapt
to every new technology. Focusing on the
tools that will drive the most impact for them
can deliver more success with less stress. "
" There are a number of opportunities for both retailers
and consumers in the drone delivery space, " said Eyal
Yair, CEO of 1MRobotics, in an interview with The Food
Institute.
" Retailers can benefit from the cost savings and efficiency
of drone delivery, while consumers can benefit
from the convenience and accessibility of this delivery
method. In addition, drone delivery has the potential
to create new jobs and business opportunities in the
logistics and transportation industries. "
Once touted as the future of small-volume delivery,
drones have come a long way since their post-millennium
debut as both tool and toy, and many companies and
brands now offer drone delivery services as an alternative
to eat-in, takeout, and delivery.
